Immediate Care When You Need It
Eye emergencies can happen suddenly, and timely care is essential to protect your vision. If you experience sudden vision changes, trauma, eye pain, or any urgent eye problem, call North Shore Eye Health & Wellness immediately during office hours at (262) 421-4412.
After hours, you can page our on-call doctor by calling the same number. Our team will triage your situation and guide you on whether to come in immediately or, in severe cases, head to the nearest emergency room.
We provide emergency care for patients in Cedarburg, Grafton, Mequon, Jackson, Saukville, Port Washington, and surrounding areas.
Common Eye Emergencies
Understanding the warning signs of an eye emergency can make a difference in protecting your vision. Call our office if you notice any of the following:
- Sudden vision loss or distortion
- Flashes or new floaters
- Red or painful eyes
- Eye trauma
- Corneal abrasions or ulcers
- Sudden swelling or discharge
Even if symptoms seem minor, it is always safer to call our office and be evaluated by an eye care professional.
First Aid Tips While You Wait for Care
While it’s important to get professional care as soon as possible, these first aid steps can help protect your eyes and reduce further damage while you’re on your way to our office or the emergency room:
- Chemical exposure: Rinse eyes immediately with clean, cool water for 15–20 minutes. Seek urgent care for severe exposure.
- Blunt trauma: Apply a cold compress gently to reduce swelling. Avoid pressing on the eye.
- Foreign objects: Do not rub the eye. If the object is visible and small, rinse with sterile saline. Cover the eye and seek care if embedded or painful.
- Eye pain or sudden vision changes: Avoid rubbing or touching the eye. Contact us immediately.
Protecting Your Eyes and Your Child’s Vision
Children’s eyes are especially delicate, and urgent issues, such as red, watery, or swollen eyes, chemical exposure, or eye injuries, require prompt attention. At North Shore Eye Health & Wellness, we provide immediate care for both adults and children.
Your eyes and your child’s eyes are too important to wait. Contact North Shore Eye Health & Wellness if you experience an eye emergency. If we’re not available, please visit your nearest emergency room.

Patient Reviews What People Are Saying
“As a new patient, I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect. My previous experiences had been with large chain eye centers and those experiences were hit or miss. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at North Shore Eye. They were friendly and thorough with their examinations and Dr. Ross was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend!”

“The most up to date equipment with the most personal care from any optometrist I’ve ever gotten. I would recommend him to anybody who has a complex prescription and hasn’t had good luck with other doctors.”
